Biomass
What is biomass?
Log Boilers
Log boilers (wood gasification) boilers are manually fed heating systems that can use many different types of timber. Typically they are filled...
Pellet Boilers
Pellet boilers for the domestic customer are smaller and more compact than log boilers. For the commercial client, pellet boilers deliver more...
Wood Chip Boilers
What are wood chip boilers? Wood chip boiler systems can be installed in both commercial and domestic properties, but are particularly efficient in...
Miscanthus
Miscanthus species are tall (up to 3.5m high) woody, perennial, rhizomatous grasses. Miscanthus is an ideal fuel for biomass as it is...
Biomass is a collection of energy sources made from living or recently living organisms. The oldest of these is wood. People have been burning wood to cook food and heat their homes for hundreds of thousands of years. It is carbon neutral because it releases the same amount of CO2 when burned as it absorbed during its life.
Wood fuel biomass boilers make very efficient use of this energy, converting up to 95% of it into usable heat. This compares to only 17% for an open fire. Correctly managed, biomass is a sustainable fuel that can deliver a significant reduction in net carbon emissions when compared to traditional fossil fuels.
How it works
A biomass system works by replacing your existing fossil fuel boiler or boilers with one that runs on wood fuel. This is then connected into your current heating system and is controlled either by your existing network or a new ETA Tronic control panel with full weather compensation.
Three main types of fuel are used in biomass boilers, logs, wood pellets and wood chip. Some energy crops such as miscanthus, more commonly known as elephant grass, can also be used depending on which biomass boiler you choose. The biomass fuel is loaded either manually or automatically and the boiler automatically controls the amount of oxygen that is put into the burn chamber depending on your heating and hot water requirements.
Choosing a biomass system
One of our team of experts will visit your property free of charge to assess your requirements. We will undertake a heat load calculation based on your building type and construction, along with your personal preferences, to ascertain the amount of energy you need to put back into your home to counteract the losses through the fabric of the building. This calculation will define the size and fuel type of your biomass boiler.
We will also look at all of your existing controls, which can either be integrated with your existing system or be replaced with a new cutting edge control system depending on your requirements.
Design and installation
Once we have determined the most suitable biomass boiler for you, our design team and specification engineers will build a customised solution that meets your building’s needs and also most importantly yours.
One of our team will contact you to arrange a date to start work and agree a timetable with you. You will always know when our engineers arrive because they will have branded vehicles, branded clothes and a big smile on their faces!
The technology we use
Austria and Scandinavia have pioneered the use of modern and efficient wood fuel biomass boilers. After a comprehensive testing process we found the award winning Austrian manufacturer ETA Heiztechnik to be amongst the best build quality and efficiency in the market.
Working closely with ETA, we only design and install their biomass heating systems giving you the security and peace of mind that you need from your renewable technology.
