FAQs

Q. Why should I use wood fuel instead of gas or other fossil fuels?

Fossil fuels are increasingly scarce with oil, coal and gas reserves running out and getting more difficult and costly to extract. The supply of fossil fuels rely on relations with countries such as Russia for gas and the middle east for oil and the rising prices of gas and oil can be affected by these and other factors. Wood fuel is a cheap and plentiful source of carbon-neutral fuel and supports local UK businesses, communities and woodlands.

There is a very strong argument that our reliance on fossil fuels has massively increased the CO2 in our atmosphere and caused global warming. Global warming has serious implications for our world and the plants and animals in it, including us. Global warming from CO2 emissions is such a threat that governments around the world are working to reduce CO2 levels and encourage sustainable and ecologically friendly fuel sources. There are grants and discounts available from the UK government to help support the seamless transition to wood fuel and/or solar heating systems, for your home or business.

Q. Is it more expensive?

Wood fuel is a cheap and plentiful source of efficient heat energy and is not affected by the price rises of ever scarcer fossil fuels from Russia or the middle east. The cost of running a wood fuel boiler can be comparable to using gas and cheaper than oil, with log or chip boilers being the cheapest for running costs. Wood pellet boilers are the easiest and cleanest to install and run and provide many ecological benefits. The initial installation cost of a wood fuel boiler is higher than a gas combi boiler, however wood fuel boilers have longer life spans. So over a short period of time a wood fuel boiler pays for itself, with a plentiful cheap supply of fuel, ecological benefits and control over your fuel security.

Q. Are wood fuel boilers easy to install?

Yes, with our team of experienced designers and engineers a tailormade system will be designed for you to fit your building perfectly. All the factors will be discussed with you, the design agreed with you and then the installation team will fit the boiler in the agreed
timeframe.

Q. Won't it be dirty and messy to refill?

Pellet boilers are very technologically advanced with a high level of automation and are ideal for town and country homes and businesses. This means they are very simple to use. The boiler will refill itself from the hopper whenever needed and throughout winter the hopper only needs to be refilled weekly with clean wood pellet into the store. There are many options and ways to make your wood fuel supply easy, clean and fun as part of your routine.

Q. Will it be easy to maintain?

Yes, wood fuel boilers are easy to maintain with little maintenance and attention required. The ash is collected in a storage box which only needs to be emptied fortnightly or monthly maybe. The ash is also a valuable addition to the garden, giving nutrients to compost and soil.

Q. Is a wood fuel boiler not a step backwards?

wood fuel boilers are now a modern and efficient way to heat homes and businesses with cutting edge technology and computerised automation. The latest evolution of boilers are innovative, make the most efficient use of the energy and are clean and easy to use. The golden age of cheap gas and oil is coming to an end, so renewable and sustainable fuels are the best solution to ongoing fuel security for your home or business. Carbon neutral energy is a priority for governments and there are grants and discounts available to encourage the early adoption of this technology, so there are incentives available now to help you make the seamless transition to wood fuel.

Q. Will I be contributing to global warming?

No, burning wood fuel is carbon neutral so the CO2 released into the atmosphere is only the same amount as the tree absorbed during its life. Fossil fuels contribute to global warming because they have been out of the carbon cycle for millions of years. There will be smoke produced from burning wood fuel, but using quality, dry fuel from suppliers near you will minimise emissions and not cause harm to the environment.

Q. There aren't any woods near me, will I run out?

Fair Energy has a network of suppliers that will supply all the quality wood fuel you could ever need. We will help you with the best suppliers in your area, to ensure there is a constant and cheap supply of fuel for you. Wood fuel is an emerging and growing
industry so there will be an ever increasing supply of sustainably managed wood fuel

Q. Shouldn't we be saving our local woodlands?

Managing woodlands is an ancient tradition that has recently been forgotten and it is an important way to make the best use of wood resources, as well as encouraging local wildlife and helping species flourish. This symbiotic relationship helps wildlife and local
communities, plus there is a sustainable source of fuel as a by product which would just rot if left on the ground, wasting the energy but still producing the same amount of CO2
